In this remodel, the homeowners wanted additional living space to accommodate their changing needs. Thus, the basement was converted into a family-friendly place where their teen children can have a space of their own. The basement now enjoys a small office, a three-quarter bath, a great room, and a utility room with space for a freezer. Zone heating and cooling provide comfort, control moisture levels, and mitigate heating/cooling costs. As most homeowners in the Madison area know, maintaining a dry basement is critical. Thus, an interior perimeter drain tile beneath the basement floor was installed as a preventative measure for water damage, and a radon fan circulates air to evaporate water before it enters the house. Specially designed and constructed retro fit interior walls that insulate and direct possible future water leaks into drain tile and away from places where it could cause damage.
